The Uncle Wiggily Book

We have sold many books written by Howard Garis. He is known for his Uncle Wiggily series. If you run a search you will see that many of the books are not worth a whole lot but many are worth a pretty penny. I have seen auctions sell for over $200 for the Uncle Wiggily books. Don’t discount the old tin toys either. Recently a car with the Uncle Wiggily side sign closed for over $700!

Good luck in the hunt!

Hello Julie, saw your comments re: Uncle Wiggly books. My mom who recently passed at 90 aquired as a child a whole set of early Uncle Wiggly books. I see you say there’s not a lot of worth there, but at auction quite possibly. How or where do I begin researching. Not asking you to do it for me, but any guidence on where to start would be awesome! Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Jim Bucher

  2. Hi Jim,

First let me say I’m sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Uncle Wiggily has been up and down in value for awhile now. The best place to start besides on completed auctions on eBay would be to go to the http://www.addall.com/used books site. This site pulls listings from many different listings sites. You would make sure in your search to note the title and year of the book you wish to find the value of. Typically, there will be a wide range of listings with a wide range of price points. You want to do the best you can to match the condition of each title to the listing descriptions and note the prices. If there are listings that range between $8-$70 and the book you have looks like it could be described similarly to all those listings then I usually will list the price at the middle. In this case, it would be around $40. Now to find what the book sold for you would simply enter your title into the eBay auction site and click advanced search. You’ll see on the left side a place to click sold listings. Take a look at what has sold in the past two weeks. Keep in mind if you’re listing on Amazon you will be able to get a bit higher price than eBay. I hope that gives you a bit of a starting point. Thanks for you question and good luck on the sale!
